Airbus entered China in 1985 with its first delivery of an A310 to China Eastern Airlines. In 1994, Airbus China Company Limited was officially established and Airbus China Beijing Representative Office started operation. In addition to the representative office, Airbus has four joint-ventures in China, namely the Hua-Ou Aviation Training and Support Centre and the Airbus (Beijing) Engineering Centre, which are located in Beijing, the Airbus A320 Family Final Assembly Line China (FALC) located in Tianjin and the Harbin Hafei Airbus Composite Manufacturing Centre (HMC) located in Harbin. Airbus (Tianjin) Delivery Centre and Airbus (Tianjin) Logistics are Airbus subsidiaries located in Tianjin. The total number of Airbus and joint-venture staff in China is over 1,250. Over the past decades, Airbus has been providing Chinese customers with the most modern and comprehensive family of aircraft on the market. Today, some 1,015 Airbus aircraft have been put into service on the Chinese Mainland. To ensure the smooth operation of Airbus aircraft, Airbus has also developed a full range of services to all customers in China. Airbus has some 20 Field Service Locations in 10 Chinese cities to provide the on-site customer services and technical support. A world-class training and support centre, which represents a more than US$100 million investment by Airbus, is fully operational in Beijing. Airbus is committed to forging a long-term strategic partnership with China. ABEC was inaugurated in mid 2005 with a mission to perform design work for Airbus’ current and future Aircraft programmes. It was operated as a Wholly Owned Foreign Enterprise (WOFE). From 2008, it became a joint venture between Airbus China Limited (70%), Hafei Aviation Industry Company Limited (HAI, 18%), Jiangxi Hongdu Aviation Industry Company Limited (7%) and China Aviation Industry Corporation I (5%). In June 2007, Airbus signed a joint venture contract with a Chinese Consortium comprising Tianjin Free Trade Zone, AVIC I and AVIC II for the establishment of an A320 Family Final Assembly Line in China. On 28th September 2008, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, together with the Party’s Secretary of Tianjin, Zhang Gaoli and Airbus President and CEO Tom Enders inaugurated the Airbus A320 Family Final Assembly Line in Tianjin, China (FALC) at a grand ceremony with over 600 guests. Harbin Hafei Airbus Composite Manufacturing Centre Company Limited (HMC) was established in June 2009.
