Cargill’s cooperation with China can be traced back to the 1970's when the Sino-U.S. Joint Communiqué was just released. Today Cargill is proud to be an integral part of China, having more than 5,000 employees and operating 41 wholly owned and joint ventures plants in China.
Founded in 1865, Cargill is an international producer and marketer of food, agricultural, financial and industrial products and services. Cargill is in a unique position to contribute its global expertise to assist China’s ongoing efforts to raise the incomes of its rural population and boost its countryside development. In addition, Cargill’s contributions are aligned with China’s commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture and a secure food supply. Cargill helps China achieve these commitments by improving efficiency and adding value in the production, processing, distribution, and trade of food and agriculture products.
Cargill’s operations in China include businesses of agriculture services, trade and processing of agriculture products, food ingredients, financial and risk management, and industrial.

We recognize that our continued success is dependent upon the growth and health of our communities and partners, as well as the vitality and conservation of the resources on which the global agriculture and food system depends. Over the years, our corporate responsibility efforts have been focused on China’s rural development. To date, Cargill has trained 2.4 million Chinese farmers to use crop nutrition, animal breeding and feeding technologies. Over the past seven years, Cargill China employees have contributed over 70,000 hours to community service.
Cargill China has been well recognized for its CSR efforts as evidenced by several prestigious awards, including, among others, the “Leadership Award of China Citizenship Action”, “U.S. Secretary of State’s Award for Corporate Excellence”, “Role Model Corporate Citizen Award”, “Charity Star” and “CSR Partnership Award”.
